Recovering

Jeff Brooks | 9/1/2006
The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools voted to restore Edward Waters College's accreditation and lifted a six-month probation imposed on Jacksonville University. Edward Waters, a private, 140-year-old historically black college, lost its accreditation in 2004 after the college plagiarizerd large portions of its quality Enhancement Plan. The school revised and resubmitted the plan. JU, a private liberal arts school, received probation in 2003 when a review revealed a multimillin-dollar debt and unbalanced budgets. The university developed a financial restructuring plan and for the first time in eight years approved a budget without a projected deficit.
